Epic Studio Visit

I had an epic studio visit today, from 10 to 3pm.  I thought the visit would be quick and breezy but it was dense, layered, inspirational and extensive.  My mother brought two friends over and as I told my story I brought out most of my inventory, which is big.  I think I sold one or several works and may be making some commission work as a result of this meeting.  Most importantly the experience was very refreshing and makes me want to paint.  Thanks Beth and Adrianna.

I have spent the past week reworking the website, moving servers and so on.  Now I can update the site with ease and I have hundreds of paintings and sculptures on the site.  The gallery thumbnails load slower but once loaded the slideshows are very attractive and fast so I hope this is a nice experience for collectors.  I will be adding a new works section, maybe a recently sold section and more in the fall I think.

1998 The Compass

I sold this old, large painting to collectors in 2000.

Artist Studio Painting

I painted this picture in 2001 and sold it a couple years ago, a piece of my old studio… I miss those windows.

Jackson Hole Commission

I had a successful trip to Jackson Hole.  I stayed with my collectors.  I am commissioned to paint a portrait of the 3 children.  I returned to the studio and got right into it.  I like to take the energy from a commission visit and throw it right into a painting.

I have not been adding enough images to the blog and will get back to this.  I have a lot of new work to show so thanks for your patience.

Jackson

I fly to Jackson Hole for a commission this week.  My intern Alanna finished with me last week, as did my part time assistant of eight months Leon.  Leon goes to art school in New York and Alanna returns for her senior year at college.  I have a lot of new work to post here but I’ll have to do that when I return from my trip.

New Work

I have catch up to do here.  I have four or five new pieces to put up on the blog… this weekend hopefully.  My assistant is leaving for NYC art school in two weeks… he will be missed.  My intern Alanna is helping me with a number of projects.  I am getting closer to the new website solution - I’m tired of research.  The art is going well, I’m settling in to my renovated Water studio.  It’s interesting to me the cycles of productivity.  I renovated the basement space with the future in mind, that I would settle into a nice art making clip if the space was designed the way my brain works.  This is exactly what is happening… I have grown strong at planning for creative episodes and designing my space and life around maximum art making.  The summer is pleasant and my collectors are coming back after a tight period.  This always feels good.  And I have no more renovation expenses, so I pour my dollars into web, the printing end of my business as I intend to offer posters to my collectors, and marketing.  It’s a good time for Sandy Garnett Studio right now.  In two weeks I fly off to Jackson for a portrait commission, which will be cool.  More this weekend.

July Work

Work is going well.  I have an assistant and intern helping me this summer.  I am developing five or ten pieces right now as I build out my web presence.  I am working on selling posters of my images as I have thousands of images.  I am trying to determine whether to do this in house or leave printing and fulfillment to a third party.  This is confusing but good practice.  I will probably start 3rd party and bring this in house as I grow.

Montauk Marine Basin

I do a shark tournament with a best friend every year out of Montauk Marine Basin.  This year we caught and released 13 blue sharks, none large enough to weigh in.  Montauk is a world of its own.  Below is a shot of the weigh station at the dock.  It is another way of life, this one, and I ought to do it more often.  It’s good to get out of the studio.
